David Whittall
Portfolio Manager—Industrials and Materials
David brings a wealth of experience to Rydex SGI, including more than 19 years in global and international equity analysis and portfolio management including more than 4 years of global long-short experience. He currently oversees the development of the global team’s energy, utility, transportation, materials and industrial sector equity research. David spent his early career living and working in Hong Kong, where he was an associate director at Baring Securities and the head of China Equity Research and also held research positions at Crosby Securities (HK) and Smith Barney—Asia. During this time, he received the distinction of being named to Institutional Investor’s “All Asia Research Team.” David holds a bachelor’s of arts degree in Asian Studies from the University of California, Berkeley and spent one year as a University of California Regent’s scholar at Beijing University. David speaks Mandarin Chinese and French.
Scott F. Klimo, CFA
Portfolio Manager—Consumer Services
Like David, Scott began his investment career in Hong Kong and draws upon a wide variety of professional and international investing experience. He launched his career in 1987 as an analyst for Crosby Securities in Hong Kong before joining Smith New Court—Far East as their Thailand Research Director. Prior to his tenure at Security Global Investors, Scott served as senior international analyst for Founders Asset Management in Denver, where he specialized in consumer durables and non-durables, telecommunications and telecom equipment. Scott also served as assistant portfolio manager for the State of Wisconsin Investment Board, where he helped manage a multi-million dollar international portfolio with a value-oriented investment style. Scott holds a bachelor’s of arts degree in Asian Studies from Hamilton College has earned the right to use the Chartered Financial Analyst® designation. He speaks Mandarin Chinese and Thai.
Mark Kress, CFA
Quantitative Research Portfolio Risk Manager
As the quantitative research portfolio manager, Mark is vital to the global team’s disciplined investment process. Prior to joining Rydex SGI, Mark was an analyst at Trinity Equity Management, a San Francisco-based investment advisory firm, where he developed and implemented the firm’s investment process responsible for incorporating quantitative screening models and risk management procedures. Mark spent four years as a senior consultant at FactSet Research Systems, where he worked with a variety of portfolio managers to assist in the development of proprietary investment strategies using the FactSet platform. Mark holds a bachelor’s of science degree in managerial economics and a master’s of business administration from the University of California, Berkeley. He has earned the right to use the Chartered Financial Analyst® designation.
Yon Perullo, CFA
Quantitative Portfolio Risk Manager
Yon brings a wealth of quantitative product development and investment experience to Rydex SGI. As co-founder and portfolio manager at Nascent Strategies, a Connecticut-based hedge fund that specialized in quantitative market-neutral investing, Yon was responsible for building the quantitative screening and risk management models essential to capturing outperformance for the fund. Before joining Nascent, Yon was a vice president of quantitative analytics at FactSet Research Systems, where he directed the global sales and development of FactSet’s suite of quantitative products, including alpha modeling, portfolio simulation and risk analysis. During his tenure at FactSet, Yon was extensively involved in helping clients refine and improve their investment process. Yon received a bachelor’s of arts degree in chemistry from the University of Rhode Island and has earned the right to use the Chartered Financial Analyst® designation.
